Role and responsibilities:

  • Assist clients to access the community, and participate in recreational activities.
  • Support clients in their own home with activities of daily living including showering, toileting, and personal hygiene.
  • Perform manual handling tasks, including the use of equipment to support mobility (wheelchairs or hoists).
  • Facilitate transportation and support clients’ social engagement.
  • Perform light domestic duties such as meal preparation and cleaning.
  • Supervise and mentor volunteers and students as required.


Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent understanding of person-centered support model and how this applies to the disability/community services sector.
  • Genuine interest in promoting the wellbeing and inclusion of people living with disabilities.
  • Lived experience supporting someone with a disability.
  • Experience supporting people with Mental Health and Complex Behaviors
  • Experience managing a PEG Feeding.
  • Flexible availability and a long-term commitment to Open Arms Community Services.


Essential criteria:

  • A valid Australian driver’s license and a reliable vehicle with comprehensive insurance.
  • NDIS Worker Screening Check.
  • Working with Children’s check.
  • Police check.
  • The legal right to work in Australia
  • Excellent IT skills
  • Certificate IV in Disability advantageous
  • Experience with working with people with complex behaviors desirable


This is a casual role, you will be expected to be able to travel to any Open Arms Community Services to fill in for work as required.

Founder

Alex brings a diverse background starting with surgical nursing from 2007 to 2013, followed by earning a Master’s in Mental Health from 2016 to 2018. His transition into community mental health nursing stemmed from a desire to do more than surgical procedures. Passionate about supporting individuals often misunderstood by society, Alex recognised the unmet needs of vulnerable populations and seized the opportunity to make a meaningful impact.

Director

Decontee, with a background as an enrolled nurse and extensive experience spanning over 15 years in the disability sector and having completed a certificate in disability support services, plays a pivotal role in overseeing support staff coordination services. She brings knowledge and a deep commitment to enhancing the quality of life for individuals with disabilities.
